Fall fashion...or not! #Blogtober14 Day 16

It isn't Fall here...BUT you already know that!

I don't even think it's Spring, I think we skipped Spring and went straight into Summer!!
It's 27 degrees right now and I'm kinda melting away on my stationary bike as I type this!!

Either way, today's prompt is Fall fashion so I went off to Polyvore and threw together my kind of Fall outfit.

I LOVE the tan boots and the chunky knit sweater, this outfit looks so warm and snugly!

Here's something a little more fitting to my weather though.
Gorgeous white wedges, high waisted denim shorts, and a striped crop top (because strips are always in and my ity bity abs are coming along nicely - Thank you #Kayla_Itsines BBG!!)

So that's it for today, short and sweet! I'm contemplating going to jump in the pool now!
Let me know what you think of my outfits!

My favourite quote and why... #Blogtober14 Day 15

I love quotes. I'm one of those girls that has a board full of quotes on pinterest, not because they all apply to my life or what I may be going through when I pin them, but because I agree with what they say.

I don't really have a definite favourite quote, I love tons of quotes from Grey's Anatomy and Harry Potter, I feel like they really speak to me. For today's prompt I went to my board in search of a good quote that I can relate to today, and here it is!

I couldn't agree more with this quote, sure if I'm not having a good morning I could let it affect my whole day by being in a bad mood, or I could shake it off and keep moving forward. Another quote that comes to mind "Fake it 'til you make it."

What really hits home with me about this quote, is that people are quick to jump to conclusions and over-react to certain situations or happenings, but if they just think things through and think about the bigger picture, they'll quickly see that whatever happened is just a freckle on the face of life's complexion, and the way they react to it will ultimately affect the outcome.

For instance, on our wedding day the venue was being set up and the centre pieces weren't working the way I wanted them to, we had big glass bowls with sea sand and seashells in them and I wanted tealight candles to float on the water in the bowl, but the sea sand wouldn't settle and it looked like an absolute mudbath, so we scrapped the floating candles and used pillar candles instead, no biggie.
Then about an hour later the fairylights blew, I was bummed, I really wanted fairylights, but there was nothing we could do about it, I just said oh well, that sucks, the day isn't about the fairylights anyway.

If I had thrown a hissy fit because things didn't go EXACTLY as I had planned, it would have taken away from all the happiness and good memories we made that day. I don't get why girls turn into bridezilla's and want to make drama over everything, with everyone, seriously, you're going to ruin your special day girls, and you make it unpleasant for everyone else!

When I fetched my dress from my godfather the week before the wedding I was stressing and he sent me home with the best advice for the day "Don't sweat the small stuff". I kept that advice in the back of my mind throughout the week of the wedding and as a result we had the best wedding, drama-free, relaxed and so so special.

Here's a little wedding snap of the beach ceremony for you!

So...What's your favourite quote??

My funniest childhood memory...#Blogtober14 Day 14

I have so many childhood memories...lots and lots of them, but I couldn't think of one as I sat down at my laptop this morning. So I picked up my phone and asked Jason (my little brother) what his was, and he was quick to fire off a few.

Jason and I, many moons ago, how cute!!!
His funniest childhood memory is this: It was a hot summers day and we were playing in the garden, Jason was probably about 4, I had gone into the house for a short while, not long after I was inside, Jason came running into the house screaming and crying, we asked him what happened? He told us a spider bit him. So we asked him to show us which spider where...He took us outside, climbed on top of the electricity reader box and pointed at the electric fencing above the palisade fencing. He had touched the electric fence and it shocked him, he got such a fright, shame hahaha it was hilarious!!

My funniest childhood memory is of the evening we spent at my aunts farm, there was a sand road that ran along the one side of the property, the farm workers walked this road to go home. We would lay a rubber snake in the grass across the road, it was tied to a piece of clear gut, we would hide on top of the roof of the house, and when people came walking past we would gently tug the gut and the snake would come slithering out of the grass. The people that were walking would get such a fright and run away screaming, it was so funny! We got up to so much mischief on that farm, broken bones, skinless knees and bloody noses, farm life at it's best I guess!! Another favourite is the day Jason told my mom his friend Zebo was going to live with us, and so "Zebo", his imaginary friend lived with us for a few months, until he got "hit by a car" according to Jason. Zebo had his own place and plate at the dinner table, his own spot on the couch and he also had to get clothes etc...

My fondest childhood memory is a recurring one...every evening when it was bedtime, my dad would carry me to bed, I would either sit on his shoulders and yell "Duck duck!!" as we went through the doorways (he is really tall), or I would sit on his foot while he walked to the room. He would then tuck me into bed and sing our good-night song. I am sure this is where my love for peanut butter originated.

It goes like this (No laughing allowed!!):
"Peanut sitting on the railway line,
his heart was all a flutter.
The railway train came down the line,
  Choo choo, peanut butter!"

Then I would laugh and often he would have to sing the song again, before I went to sleep.
I will definitely be singing this bedtime song to our children one day!

What's your favourite childhood memory??

#Blogtober14 Days 12 & 13

I missed day 12, BUT since there aren't really any rules when it comes to blogtober, AND since rules are made to be broken, today I will post day 12 and day 13.

#Blogtober14 Day 12 - The best advice...
I have received so much good advice in my short lifetime from family, friends, colleagues, clients and pinterest...this makes deciding which piece of advice is the best a difficult task.

The following rank in my top three:
1. Don't compare your chapter 1 to someone else's chapter 20.
2. Do what makes you happy.
3. Don't change who you are for anyone, be yourself, you are unique and special.

So that's that, a few wise words to start off your week!

#Blogtober14 Day 13 - My favourite fall recipe...
Since fall is all about the pumpkins, and even though it isn't fall over here, today I will share a South African favourite with you guys - Pumpkin fritters (Pampoenkoekies as known by Afrikaans people) from the Hibiscus coast seconds website, I don't have my family recipe on hand at the moment.

Pumpkin fritters are delicious, especially when served warm with crunchy cinnamon sugar, the are usually served as a side dish for a main meal but its so sweet you can almost serve it as desert!

What you're gonna need:
500 g pumpkin
1 cup plain flour
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp baking powder
1 pinch salt

How you're gonna do it:
First you steam the pumpkin until tender. Mash thoroughly and allow to cool.
Then you combine the cooled pumpkin, flour, egg, baking powder and salt.
In a non-stick frying pan, add a drizzle of vegetable oil.
Using a bit of kitchen paper, spread the oil lightly around the pan.
Then spoon tablespoons of the pumpkin batter into the pan and fry over a medium heat.
After a couple minutes, flip the fritters over and lightly press to spread the batter out slightly.
Cook for another 3 minutes and flip over again. Give them another couple of minutes per side.
Remove from the pan and place on kitchen paper.
Whilst still warm, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and serve.

Enjoy!

If I were president....#Blogtober14 Day 11

I doubt I know quite enough about politics to tackle today's post, and that's not the reason I'm just making it...I was baking!!! But here goes....

Besides my photobombers, I think I look pretty cute in my presidential hat!!

If I were president of South Africa I would instate the following - Ignoring all the glaringly obvious issues that our country faces (corruption, crime, fraud etc):
- Weekends would be 3 days long, work hours would increase by an hour a day from Monday - Thursday, but who cares, Friday is an off day!!
- "Work" would include and require at least one hour of physical activity/meditation a day - you may choose your poison!!
- E-tolls would be banished!
- I would implement a decent public transport system.
- I would implement a health-care system that provides good quality health care for all citizens for a small fee.
- Healthy food would be cheaper than junk food.
- Crocs would be destroyed...ALL of them!!!
- All forms of social media would be down from 6 to 8 - dinner time - get off your phones rude people!!!
- I would instate a livable minimum wage for all people holding a job, seriously, why is there all this poverty??
- Inter-continental travel would be cheaper.
- Murder would be punishable by death.

Ok, before this gets too serious...well, that would be nice, wouldn't it! When the world revolved around us and what we want! What would you want to change if you were president??
